The history of the McMahon Group is a 100-year chronicle of progress, innovation, stewardship, and excellence in engineering and architecture. For nearly a century, McMahon Associates has been providing engineering services to public and private sector clients. In 1909, A.E. McMahon founded the company as a civil engineering firm in Menasha, Wisconsin. The firm remained small in its early days, designing the infrastructure that was essential to the growth of many communities located in the Fox River valley. By the mid 1970’s, burgeoning regulations for improving the safety and quality of core municipal infrastructure, including water resources and transportation systems, necessitated gradual growth in the company’s services and staff. During this time, Robert McMahon grew his father’s engineering firm, serving as the company’s president well into the next decade. Ownership transition in the 1980’s brought current President and C.E.O., Denny Lamers and Vice Presidents Dennis Buschke and Gary Rosenbeck, into leadership roles for the firm. Shortly thereafter, the incorporation of Midwest Contract Operations (MCO) became the second element of what is today the McMahon Group family of companies. The first of two expansions into other states also occurred in the 1980’s, with the opening of a branch office in Valparaiso, Indiana. The second branch office in Machesney Park, Illinois, and the establishment of a design/build division, McMahon, Inc., would follow a few years later. In 1993, the McMahon Group expanded once again, after negotiations with Robert Miller resulted in the purchase of Miller Wagner Coenen, an architectural firm located in Neenah. The staff of Miller Wagner Coenen joined the McMahon Group, and became Miller Wagner Coenen McMahon. Miller Wagner Coenen McMahon expanded its architectural services offering in 2005 when the company acquired the assets of another local architectural firm, Sachs Long and McMahon (SLaM) of Little Chute. The summer of 2008 brought the announcement of the merger of the McMahon Group’s engineering and architectural affiliate firms, McMahon Associates and Miller Wagner Coenen McMahon. The merger has resulted in a single full-service engineering and architectural services firm that is now named, simply, McMahon. The McMahon Group has been one of the Top 500 Engineering Firms in the nation for each of the past 10-years, according to ENR Magazine. In 2005, the firm was honored by CE News as one of the Best Civil Engineering Firms to Work For. In 2009 the company will celebrate 100-years in business. Since 1909, the firm has set the pace in an industry that demands its professionals to respond to ever-changing trends. Environment, technology, economics, and human behavior influence how we do what we do. As the McMahon Group enters its next century, we are committed to designing for a sustainable future, and to helping our clients meet the challenges that lie ahead. |
